Prishtina, 8 September 2011 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo would like to clarify for public opinion the issue of Kosovo’s recognition by Guinea-Bissau and the Sultanate of Oman, following recent propaganda in Belgrade’s media:
- The Republic of Kosovo, dated January 30, 2011 received a verbal note from the Sultan of Oman, with reference number 7102/700710/181/2011 signed by His Highness Sultan Qaboos Bin Said to the envoy of the former President of the Republic of Kosovo, Fatmir Sejdiu, which states that: “We acknowledge the position of the International Court of Justice toward Kosovo’s independence and the Government of the Sultanate of Oman welcomes the membership of the Republic of Kosovo in the United Nations and other organizations in which Kosovo wishes to participate.”
- Deputy Prime Minister Behgjet Pacolli received a verbal note dated January 10, 2011 from the Leader of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau which states: “The authorities of the Republic of Guinea- Bissau have recognized the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Kosovo and wish to establish diplomatic relations as quickly as possible”.
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo and partner states in the meantime have contacted these two states, which have confirmed their previous position toward the Republic of Kosovo.
- MFA considers that the untruths presented by Belgrade’s government are a media attempt to divert attention from current demands for Serbia’s recognition of Kosovo’s borders, made recently by major EU states and confirms that a series of recognitions are anticipated in the coming weeks.
